Six students from SGMS were inducted as new members of the National Junior Honor Society in a ceremony held at school Oct. 16. Members were selected by the chapter’s faculty council for meeting standards of scholarship, service, leadership, citizenship and character.
Madison Ullom was the eighth-grade student inducted.  The seventh-grade students were Derek Butts, Marena Coonrod, Oriana Hollingsworth, Jessica Puckett and Naomi Savea. Current NJHS chapter members are Brittany Burriss, Sydney Diaz, Danielle Garcia, Ashlee Howe, Samantha O’Neal and Shaunquelle Sapp.
Mary Ryan and Sharyl Eastlake are the NJHS advisers.
“We are very proud to recognize these outstanding members of our student body. NJHS members are chosen for, and then expected to; continue their exemplary contributions to the school and community,” the advisers said.
Each year, the NJHS members sponsor service projects for the school and community. The National Junior Honor Society ranks as one of the oldest national organizations for students. Chapters exist in more than 6,000 schools, and since 1929, millions of students have been selected for membership. NJHS is sponsored nationally by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
Food Lion donated refreshments for the induction ceremony.
