Another district having accreditation problems

POSTED: November 29, 2008 5:00 a.m.
BUCHANAN — Another Georgia school district is facing accreditation problems.

The head of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools says the organization has voted to place the Haralson County schools in west Georgia on probation.

Mark A. Elgart, president and chief executive officer of SACS, said investigators said they found governance problems by Haralson school board members, including micromanaging, not following their own policies and ethics violations.

The problems are similar to those that led to Clayton County schools' accreditation loss on Sept. 1.

Haralson County, with about 4,000 students, is about 50 miles west of Atlanta on the Alabama line.
