LUDOWICI — A Long County woman and her 3-year-old son, have lost everything and are homeless after a fire near Glennville Thursday morning.
According to Na-Sha Roberson, at around 8:30 a.m., she was awakened as a fire was burning her mobile home. According to the mother, she woke up when she heard what sounded like an explosion from the area of her heating and air conditioning unit.
After she was up, she said smoke was throughout the home, so she grabbed her son Landon and, along with a friend, ran outside.
Roberson then called 911 and the first emergency responders arrived at 8:41.  Long County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Julius Bergeron was the first to arrive.
“When I got there, about a third of the trailer appeared to be on fire, and smoke was coming out of the front and back windows on the right side of the home,” he said.
The first unit from the Ludowici/Long County Fire Department arrived at 8:53, and the fire was extinguished by 9:30.
Ludowici/Long County FD firefighter Chris Moss said when he arrived the department initiated a direct attack on the flames through the front of the home.
Moss said there has been no determination as to the cause of the fire, nor could he confirm where the fire started. He said the fire is under investigation.
The home is in Long Acres Mobile Home Park in the Sand Hill area. According to Roberson, John Burkhalter owns the park.
Roberson said she lost everything she owned and she did not have a place to go to. The American Red Cross was contacted to see if they could provide help.
Other units working at the fire included the Long County EMS and Glennville Fire and Rescue.
