Tuesday was a good night for Long County High School as both the boys' and girls' basketball teams advanced in the Region 2-AA tournament in Lyons.

Jacob Turner was selected as Long County basketball homecoming king Feb. 8 during the Blue Tide's game with Bryan County in Ludowici. Junior Dorian Adkins, sophomore Francisco Mejia and freshman Ulises Franco were crowned princes.

Crusaders roll

The Faith Baptist Christian Academy boys basketball team won the South Region Championship last weekend by defeating Grace Christian Academy, 89-82. On Tuesday, the Crusaders also advanced to the semi-finals of the GCCA state basketball tournament by defeating Old Suwanee Christian 85-43.

Accused milita member pleads not guilty

Accused FEAR militia member Heather Salmon was arraigned Thursday morning on charges of malice murder, felony murder, violations of the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act, firearm possession during the commission of a crime, aggravated assault and making a false statement. She entered a not-guilty plea before Long County Superior Court Judge Robert Russell.

Blue Tide baseball team holds rec night for players, coaches

The Blue Tide baseball team recently held its annual Recreation Night in Long County. Around 50 players and coaches who are participating in the T-ball, softball and baseball programs came out for the night. Recreation department Director Michelle Rogers said more than 400 children will be playing this year.
