Patrol predicts deadly weekend

ATLANTA - The Georgia State Patrol is predicting 20 traffic deaths on Georgia roads during the 102-hour New Year's Day holiday weekend that begins Wednesday at 6 p.m. and ends at midnight Sunday.

The patrol estimates there will be 3,008 accidents with 1,350 injuries.

Double shooting in Savannah kills one

SAVANNAH - Savannah-Chatham police say a double shooting overnight left a man dead and a woman injured.

Police said the shootings occurred near a funeral home at the corners of Commerce and Commercial Drives. Gene Harley, a police spokesman, said officers responded to the scene at around 7:30 p.m. Thursday

Hinesville man turns himself in, another search begins

Last week's Coastal Courier story regarding Delano Clancy led the 21-year-old Hinesville man to turn himself in after hearing from his family that the police were looking for him. The arrest of Clancy has encouraged the Multi Agency Crack Enforcement Drug Task Force to again ask for community support in locating a person wanted for probation violations and drug charges.
