Parker arson case delayed again

The case of the state of Georgia vs. Robert Parker, a former Long County Sheriff's deputy, was delayed again Wednesday morning when First District Atlantic Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge Robert L. Russell III agreed to set Aug. 1 for a "Rule 20" hearing to allow Parker to enter a plea.

Long deputy stops high-speed chase

A high-speed chase that began in Wayne County shortly before noon ended in Long County when a Long County Sheriff's Office deputy stopped the suspect using the pit maneuver, causing the fleeing driver to wreck.

HPD wants you to know ...

According to code O.C.G.A. 40-8-73.1, in Georgia, it's unlawful for any person to operate a vehicle that has material applied to the rear windshield or the side windows that reduce light transmission through the windshield or windows to less than 32 percent. The rear windows of a truck or multipurpose vehicle are exempt from parts of this law, however the windows to the left and right of the driver and the front windshield must be in compliance.

Discarded pizza box sparks blaze

A fire Thursday night in Gum Branch destroyed a single-wide trailer in the 400 block of Wells Road, displacing seven people. Five adults lived in the home - three women and two men - and two girls, ages 6 and 12.

June 5: Verbal dispute - Two deputies were dispatched to McCumber Drive in Hinesville due to a domestic dispute. The complainant, parked outside of her mother's house, said her mother went to her grandmother's house and took her belongings. The mother told the deputy that she told her daughter to move out because she wasn't helping around the house.

Fatal wreck apparently caused by victim

Long County resident Jessie Parker, 35, died from injuries he sustained in a two-vehicle wreck Wednesday in Long County. Fort Stewart soldier Karl Stephan was injured in the accident.
