Disaster Relief volunteers for the American Red Cross Liberty Branch office handed out brochures to the public during the Hurricane Awareness Day on Saturday at Lowe's in Hinesville. The event enabled emergency relief agencies, such as the Red Cross and LHEMA, to educate the public on how to prepare for hurricane season. They also provided information on how to ready before, during and after any disaster.

May 1: Burglary - A resident in the 700 block of Hearn Road reported that a laptop was taken sometime between Monday, April 29 and Wednesday, May 1, and that the back door has signs of forced entry. No other items were reportedly missing, and the residents waited to report the missing item in case they had only misplaced it. The responding officer reported signs of forced entry, and the address reportedly was also burglarized with forced entry in 2011.
A Hinesville woman who used a brownie as a weapon Saturday night to deface the Liberty County Justice Center now is behind bars. Khadiza Latimore was arrested and charged with criminal trespass for smashing a brownie on a glass door at the justice center on South Main Street. She is being held on $1,200 bond at the Liberty County Jail.
April 28: Terroristic threats and acts - Police and fire officials responded to a mail box explosion in the 300 block of Deal Street. The mail box was damaged but intact, and inside of it was a melted two-liter root beer bottle with an unknown substance inside it.

April 19: Simple battery, cruelty to animals - A deputy went to investigate a domestic dispute in Midway and found two people seriously impaired by alcohol and/or drugs. There were no signs of violence, but a woman claimed a man grabbed her by the ankles and pulled her and threw her dog against a wall. Both were advised of the family violence act and warrant procedures.
The Heritage Bank in Midway was robbed during the lunch hour Friday. Midway Police Chief Kelli Morningstar only could confirm the bank was robbed at 12:39 p.m. before deferring all questions to the Liberty County Sheriff's Office.

April 26: Burglary - A man reported a broken window at another residence in the 2400 block of Caswell Boulevard, and the responding officer noticed there were two TVs lying on a floor but was not sure whether they were left that way by burglars or by their owner. He contacted the resident, who said she has been away from the house for about a month, and they deduced that only a $250 laptop was taken from the home.
Two home-intrusion suspects who thought a Long County residence was deserted were surprised May 2 when a neighbor foiled their entry attempt and fired a shot at them.
