The Liberty and Long County Health Departments are urging the public to prepare now to protect their lives, loved ones and property before a storm approaches.

MIAMI (AP) -The director of the National Hurricane Center, who has been outspoken in warning about an aging satellite used for hurricane forecasting, was chastised Friday by a superior for his comments.
MACE drug task force June 17
Below is the MACE drug task force's report for the month of May. MACE drug task force worked 84 cases with 77 offenders. Drugs were seized that had a street value of $73,642. In addition, agents seized $2,615 in currency, one vehicle valued at $600 and six weapons. Twenty-four cases were closed with no arrests. Promoting awareness
Disaster Relief volunteers for the American Red Cross Liberty Branch office handed out brochures to the public during the Hurricane Awareness Day on Saturday at Lowe's in Hinesville. The event enabled emergency relief agencies, such as the Red Cross and LHEMA, to educate the public on how to prepare for hurricane season. They also provided information on how to ready before, during and after any disaster.

April 12: Simple battery/stalking/aggressive driving - A woman was arrested and taken to jail when deputies found a machete, sword and a handgun that were used to threaten her husband, in the woman's vehicle after she repeatedly followed and rammed her car into his on Highway 144 in Fort Stewart.
House fire displaces family
The Gum Branch home of a Fort Stewart soldier and his family was heavily damaged Thursday night by fire. The family and their pets made it out OK but lost most of their belongings.
