A Long State Prison inmate escaped Tuesday, while on a work detail in Jesup.

Meth labs found in Effingham Co.

SRINGFIELD - A half dozen methamphetamine labs have been dismantled in north Effingham County.

The Effingham County Sheriff's office said the labs were discovered Tuesday afternoon and led to the arrest of a man and woman who face multiple drug charges.

Student hit by car in Ludowici

LUDOWICI -- According to Ludowici Police Chief Richard Robertson, at about 8 this morning a student was hit by a vehicle as the child was crossing McDonald Street in front of the board of education office.

"From what one witness told us, the child apparently ran out in front of the car, and was hit; at this point it doesn't appear that the driver was at fault, but everything is still under investigation", said Robertson.

Sunday wreck injures five

A wreck involving a Long County man, and a woman, who was traveling with three passengers, appears to be alcohol related, according to Georgia State Patrol, Trooper William Bowman.

Teen accidentally shot in stomach

Hinesville police have confirmed a teenager was shot at a home in the Eagles Landing subdivision Friday night.

The shooting occurred at a house on the 1400 block of Abrahms Ally shortly before 7 p.m. The teen was rushed to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah with a gunshot wound to the right side of his abdomen.

Agents were called in to assist the Liberty County Sheriff's Department on Nov. 26 after deputies made a routine stop on a car for having its taillight out. The stop reportedly led to a search of the vehicle, where the deputies allegedly found a black bag containing a sawed-off shotgun, another altered firearm, ammunition and 1.5 grams of marijuana.

Agents on Nov. 19 arrested Joshua Hicks, who was reportedly found in the possession of several stolen items. Among those items was an M-4 assault rifle reportedly belonging to Jonathan Guzman. Cato said Guzman was called in to claim his rifle, and during the conversation that followed, agents discovered he had a failure to appear warrant. Cato said MACE learned Guzman had been indicted for child molestation, statutory rape and giving alcohol to an underage person. Guzman, a soldier stationed at Fort Stewart, is currently out on bond. $100,000 bond set on fireman

SAVANNAH - A South Carolina judge ordered a Savannah firefighter to be held on a high bond following his arrest for a fatal hit-and-run crash that left a bicycle rider dead.

Bluffton, S.C., police said 29-year-old Ryan Scott Cudlip was formally charged Sunday with involuntary manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death.

Patrol predicts deadly weekend

ATLANTA - The Georgia State Patrol is predicting 20 traffic deaths on Georgia roads during the 102-hour New Year's Day holiday weekend that begins Wednesday at 6 p.m. and ends at midnight Sunday.

The patrol estimates there will be 3,008 accidents with 1,350 injuries.
