Fire leaves 13 homeless

A fire in Riceboro on Wednesday afternoon left a family of five adults and eight children homeless.

Storm does little to our area

A tornado watch that covered Liberty and Long counties was lifted at 4 p.m. yesterday and, other than brief spurts of rain, the community seems to have dodged the severe storms and tornados that claimed the lives of more than 280 people in six states throughout the Southeast, according to reports.

Weather could still get 'nasty'

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch in Liberty and Long County until 4 p.m. today. An extreme band of bad weather is moving across the southeast. This band of storm has already killed at least 202 people in six states according to reports posted by the Associated Press and cnn.com.

Long Co. officials tend to wreck, fires

Chaos reigned Monday in Long County when an 18-wheeler ran off the road in Ludowici and struck two power poles, snarling traffic for two hours and cutting off electricity to parts of the city. Soon after that, two brush fires - unrelated to the wreck - broke out and agencies from neighboring areas were called in to assist.

Two deputies promoted to corporal

Liberty County Sheriff Office deputies Dennis Abbgy and Jeff Dawson were promoted to corporal Wednesday morning. The deputies received their stripes from LCSO Chief Deputy Keith Moran during a brief ceremony in the chief's office on Paul Sikes Road.
