HPD blotter for May 10
April 22: Theft by taking - A resident in the 700 block of Bacon Road reported someone took the engine lift that was in her driveway. She said she asked her neighbors if they had seen anything suspicious and they had not, and the officer reported not seeing evidence of a vehicle that could move an engine lift.
Health Department posts recent eatery scores
The Liberty County Health Department recently listed the sanitation scores of food establishments, bars and institutional eateries. You can download a copy by clicking on the media player at left.
Fast-food shooting victim recovering
An argument Wednesday evening between two employees at the Hinesville Burger King ended with one man taking a bullet in the arm.

April 16: Simple battery/family violence/criminal trespass - A woman said her live-in boyfriend pushed and shoved her during a heated argument inside their Victory Manor Mobile Home residence. She said she called 911 so her boyfriend left the house but not before punching the wall and leaving a big hole in the wall. She refused medical treatment.
Update: Employee shot at Burger King
An argument between two employees at the Hinesville Burger King Wednesday evening ended with a shooting.
Liberty County Sheriff's blotter for May 8
April 15: Theft by taking – felony -The owner of a landscaping and nursery business said his business office had not been open since Thanksgiving 2012. He said he went to the office to prepare for the upcoming busy season and found that during the time his business was closed someone took his trencher and a 100 pound bucket of scrap metals he had enclosed within the fenced area.
HPD blotter for May 6
April 21: Shoplifting - Walmart's loss prevention manager called police with a suspected shoplifter whom he had reportedly seen placing items inside Walmart bags before leaving the store without paying.
Liberty deputy completes radar class
Deputy H. Weyman Chapman Jr. of the Liberty County Sheriff's Office recently completed a basic radar operator course taught by the Georgia Police Academy Division of the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth.
Liberty County Sheriff's blotter for May 6
April 12: Simple battery/stalking/aggressive driving - A woman was arrested and taken to jail when deputies found a machete, sword and a handgun that were used to threaten her husband, in the woman's vehicle after she repeatedly followed and rammed her car into his on Highway 144 in Fort Stewart.
House fire displaces family
The Gum Branch home of a Fort Stewart soldier and his family was heavily damaged Thursday night by fire. The family and their pets made it out OK but lost most of their belongings.
HPD blotter for May 5
March 30: DUI, canceled registration, suspended license - A Midway man was arrested around 10:15 p.m. for DUI, driving on a suspended license and having canceled registration near Gen. Stewart Way and Oglethorpe Highway. The man reportedly blew a .083 and .085. He was processed, given a court date and released to the Liberty County Jail.

April 1: Obstructing or hindering law enforcement officers - A Savannah man and California man were arrested in Walthourville at Dunlevie Road and Barnard Pray Road after a traffic stop. Deputies discovered the California man had a warrant out for his arrest. As the deputy waited for backup, he noticed that passengers in the vehicle were acting suspicious. A search found marijuana paraphernalia in the car. Two of three passengers reportedly gave proper names, but ...
Funeral set for wreck victim
A Midway man died Saturday in a motorcycle wreck near the Bryan/Chatham county line. George Wesley Thomas, 38, of Carlyene Drive on the Isle of Wight, died from injuries sustained after he lost control of his bike around 2 p.m. on Chief of Love Road, according to a release from the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police.
Four promoted in sheriff's office
During a brief ceremony Wednesday at the Justice Center, Liberty County Deputy Gary Eason was promoted to sergeant; Deputy Scott Stevens was promoted to corporal; Arlene Brown was promoted to sergeant; and Bruce Duncan, the current jail administrator, was promoted to major. LCSO Sheriff Steve Sikes and Chief Deputy Jon Long led the ceremony.

Man found dead on Isle of Wight identified
A Midway man found dead Thursday next to his ATV on the Isle of Wight has been identified.
HPD blotter for May 24
May 1: Burglary - A resident in the 700 block of Hearn Road reported that a laptop was taken sometime between Monday, April 29 and Wednesday, May 1, and that the back door has signs of forced entry. No other items were reportedly missing, and the residents waited to report the missing item in case they had only misplaced it. The responding officer reported signs of forced entry, and the address reportedly was also burglarized with forced entry in 2011.
Woman uses brownie to deface justice center
A Hinesville woman who used a brownie as a weapon Saturday night to deface the Liberty County Justice Center now is behind bars. Khadiza Latimore was arrested and charged with criminal trespass for smashing a brownie on a glass door at the justice center on South Main Street. She is being held on $1,200 bond at the Liberty County Jail.
HPD blotter for May 22
April 28: Terroristic threats and acts - Police and fire officials responded to a mail box explosion in the 300 block of Deal Street. The mail box was damaged but intact, and inside of it was a melted two-liter root beer bottle with an unknown substance inside it.
Georgia DoT suspends major lane closures for holiday weekend
JESUP ― The Georgia Department of Transportation announced Monday that to help travelers during the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, construction-related lane closures on all interstate and major state-system highways would be suspended from noon Friday, May 24, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, May 28.

April 19: Simple battery, cruelty to animals - A deputy went to investigate a domestic dispute in Midway and found two people seriously impaired by alcohol and/or drugs. There were no signs of violence, but a woman claimed a man grabbed her by the ankles and pulled her and threw her dog against a wall. Both were advised of the family violence act and warrant procedures.
The Heritage Bank in Midway robbed
The Heritage Bank in Midway was robbed during the lunch hour Friday. Midway Police Chief Kelli Morningstar only could confirm the bank was robbed at 12:39 p.m. before deferring all questions to the Liberty County Sheriff's Office.
Suspect in Wayne County death identified
The death of a man found Wednesday morning in Wayne County is under investigation, and two people were arrested around 5 a.m. Thursday in Ludowici's Pecan Park in connection with the fatal shooting, according to Wayne County Sheriff John Carter and Ludowici Police Department Chief James Rogers.

A mobile-home fire Wednesday night in Long County has displaced a family of three.

Liberty County Sheriff's blotter for May 13
April 26: Burglary - A man reported a broken window at another residence in the 2400 block of Caswell Boulevard, and the responding officer noticed there were two TVs lying on a floor but was not sure whether they were left that way by burglars or by their owner. He contacted the resident, who said she has been away from the house for about a month, and they deduced that only a $250 laptop was taken from the home.
Long County man thwarts burglary
Two home-intrusion suspects who thought a Long County residence was deserted were surprised May 2 when a neighbor foiled their entry attempt and fired a shot at them.
