Lake George FD to mark prevention week

The Lake George Fire Department will host an event to coincide with Fire Prevention Month from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Lake George Fire Station. There will be a Life Star helicopter, Smokey the Bear, EMS, state and county police officers, the Fort Stewart fire dog, the Jesup roll-over machine and much more. Sheriff, BoE train for school safety

Ensuring the safety of public-school students requires a collaborative effort by school personnel and law enforcement, according to Liberty County Sheriff Steve Sikes, whose office recently completed active-shooter training. The training, with the assistance of Global Tactical Training Group and the Midway Police Department, included all certified deputies and consisted of building entries, room entries and rappelling techniques.

March 9: • Theft by taking: A Gause Street woman told police someone took two truck tires from her yard. The woman said she noticed the tires were missing when she returned home from a funeral. She told police a neighbor said he had spotted the tires in the back of a man's pickup when riding his bike through the neighborhood.

Convicted felon Adam Cochrane told Liberty County High School students Thursday during a prom-promise that the choices one makes are like ripples on a pond - they leave behind consequences that affect others. Cochrane, a Bradwell Institute graduate, said his choosing to drink and drive one night in 2004 cost three people their lives.
