Fire officials share fire safety tips

Liberty County Fire Coordinator James Ashdown sifted through the charred remains of a wooden deck at a mobile home on South Coastal Highway in Riceboro this past week hoping to find some clue as to the cause of a house fire that claimed the lives of Sylvania Sapp and her daughter, Sylvia Elaine Smith, earlier that morning.

Wreck at Airport and 196 tying up traffic

Update: A wreck at the corner of Airport Road and Highway 196 West in Hinesville tied up traffic for roughly two hours Wednesday. According to GSP Trooper Lyle Thurmond the wreck happened at 3 p.m. Three vehicles were involved and authorities had to re-route traffic around the area. Traffic headed westbound on 196 toward Gum Branch was closed for about two hours.
