The grandson of a Fort Stewart soldier was found unresponsive Aug. 7 and later was pronounced deceased by first responders in the soldier's on-post home. The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command is investigating the death, and no additional information will be released at this time to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
The young man allegedly responsible for the death of Kiara Gray, 22, has turned himself in to police. Hinesville Police's lead detective, Maj. Thomas Cribbs said Christopher Burton turned himself in today.

June 22: Theft by taking, criminal trespass - A deputy was called to West Highway 196 after a Hinesville man's stepfather trespassed onto his property. The complainant kicked his stepfather off of the property and then discovered a steel weightlifting bar and three dumbbells missing. He told the deputy that his stepfather often would take steel items and sell them to Coastal Recycling Center for beer money. He provided the deputy with his stepfather's address, but the offender was not there when the deputy arrived at the residence.

June 19: Sales of cocaine, possession of marijuana - An officer noticed a vehicle he recently pulled over in which the driver did not have a license. When the officer made contact with the driver, it was the man he suspected. The officer asked the man if he had his license, and he did not answer. The officer retrieved information that said the man still did not have a license.

The daughter said she was smoking outside when her mother approached her about burning a hole in the back seat of the car. The daughter said her mother had called her "a deadbeat" single-mother and then sprayed her in the face with air freshener.
Dec. 22: • DUI – Driving under the influence of alcohol - A deputy pulled over a driver whose vehicle was weaving from side to side on Highway 38 in Midway. When the deputy approached the woman, she told him she had been talking on her cellphone. The deputy smelled alcohol coming from the woman's vehicle.
