Peden gets life with parole possibility

Former Forever Enduring Always Ready (FEAR) militia member Anthony Peden was sentenced Thursday to life in prison with the possibility of parole in the December 2011 murders of Tiffany York, 17, and Michael Roark, 19. Peden, 28, and his co-defendant, Christopher Salmon, 27, pleaded guilty to the murders last month in Long County court. They were arrested more than two years ago following a investigation into the militia's operation and the teens' deaths at Morgan Lake.

Safety Awareness Day in Ludowici

The Long County Protective Services Auxiliary recently had its annual Safety Awareness Day at the Long County Recreation Complex. March 10: Suspicious activity - A man who resides at a boarding house on Ola B Lane said he thinks his landlord is stealing from him. The man said he receives a monthly Social Security check for $721. His landlord keeps the check and gives him $50 a month to spend. The man said he didn't receive his $50 or his medication for the past month. The landlord said the man made arrangements to have his check deposited directly into her account. She added that she used the $50 to pay for his probation fees last month.

Area drug court gets certification

Superior Court Judge D. Jay Stewart of the Atlantic Judicial Circuit Felony Drug Court recently announced that the drug court now is fully certified and eligible to receive state grant funding in fiscal years 2015 and 2016. The Atlantic Judicial Circuit Felony Drug Court has been in operation since January 2009 and has been providing taxpayers savings and quality services to its participants in Liberty, Long, Tattnall, Bryan, McIntosh and Evans counties. Funding would provide for treatment costs, community supervision, drug and alcohol testing kits and administrative costs.

Suspects sought in Long Co. assault

Two people are wanted in connection with a case involving a kidnapping, a vehicle hijacking, an armed robbery and aggravated assault. It was reported in Long County on July 2.
