Feb. 27: Criminal trespass - A Hinesville woman complained that a black pickup truck backed up to a pole barn across the road from her residence. Since the area is private property, she said she confronted the driver. The man said he'd just pulled off the road to talk on his cell phone. She advised him to leave and he did so without further incident.

Firefighters lauded for saving man

Hinesville Fire Department Lt. James Woodard and firefighter Alan "Rowdy" Carson were so determined during a Jan. 25 structure fire to rescue the person trapped inside an Elm Street home that they agreed to enter the inferno before their water hoses were charged.

Foresters say prescribed burns prevent wildfires

Residents living near Fort Stewart probably have noticed a little smoke recently. Bob Tanner, fire operations team leader for Fort Stewart's Forestry Branch, said not to worry. He said the Army deliberately conducts "prescribed burns" in specific areas from March through June and over the Christmas holidays to prevent uncontrolled wildfires. Each area is burned on a three-year cycle, he said.

A woman who allegedly inquired about hiring a hit man at Walmart in Hinesville was arrested Friday on outstanding warrants for parole violations.

Jan. 27: Entering auto - A man reported that someone stole several items from his car in the 600 block of Caines Road. Missing were a pistol and full magazine valued at $600, a $50 holster, a $50 watch and $2 in loose change. The weapon is owned by the Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department and was work-issued to the man. There was no sign of damage, and the responding officer said heavy dust and pollen would have hindered fingerprinting.

Prescribed fire alert for Liberty, Long, Wayne and Tattnall counties

A prescribed fire will be conducted Friday, March 8, in Liberty County. The fire, which may present smoke to residents of Liberty, Long, Wayne and Tattnall counties, will be carried out by Fort Stewart Forestry.

Biker involved in wreck on Highway 84

A woman who was driving a motorcycle westbound on Highway 84 in Hinesville struck the rear of a car around 3:35 p.m. Thursday and was taken by Life Star to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, according to Hinesville Police Department Officer Cpl. Les Patton. The car was attempting to turn left from Kroger when the accident occured. The motorcyclist was in serious condition Thursday evening.

April 16: Simple battery/family violence/criminal trespass - A woman said her live-in boyfriend pushed and shoved her during a heated argument inside their Victory Manor Mobile Home residence. She said she called 911 so her boyfriend left the house but not before punching the wall and leaving a big hole in the wall. She refused medical treatment.
