Home invasion results in shooting

A Hinesville man was shot Wednesday night during a scuffle with an intruder at his Pineland Square Apartments home. An unknown gunman reportedly forced his way in the apartment the victim shares with his girlfriend.

Suspect indicted in 3rd ID soldier's death

A federal grand jury in Savannah indicted Carl Evan Swain, 43, of Alabama, on charges of first-degree murder in connection with the Nov. 30 death of a Fort Stewart soldier, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Georgia, Savannah Office.

Man shot at Hinesville apartment

A man was shot Wednesday night at Pineland Square apartments on Pineland Avenue in Hinesville. According to Hinesville Police Department Maj. Thomas Cribbs, the victim was at home when a female friend came to the door. As she entered the apartment, a man reportedly accosted her and tried to force his way in. Two other men reportedly lingered behind the first man. A skirmish allegedly ensued between the first suspect and the apartment resident, which is when the victim was shot in the left shoulder. Dec. 13: Theft by conversion - A woman and her boyfriend living with her mother claimed the mother tossed them out without a proper eviction. The couple said they left and returned the next day to retrieve their property but the mother had locked up 250 of her DVD movies and refused to give them back.

Arrest warrant alleges robbery

The Long County Sheriff's Office has gotten an arrest warrant for Collen Marie Covington, who has been indicted on charges of criminal trespass, stalking and burglary, according to LCSO Lt. Dec. 8: Driving with suspended license/tag light required/unsafe vehicle - A woman was stopped at Lewis Frasier Road in Midway when a deputy noticed a broken tag light on her Grand Prix. The deputy ran her information through the system and discovered she had a suspended license and was wanted in Bibb County. She was cited for faulty tag lights and unsafe vehicle and was taken to jail on a hold for the outstanding warrant.

One killed, seven injured by train in Jesup

One member of a Savannah-based Meddin Studios film crew shooting the Greg Allman biopic, "Midnight Rider," was killed in a train accident around 4:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon in Jesup, according to Wayne County Sheriff's Office Investigator Joe Gardner. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel. Seven others were injured, one of whom was taken by helicopter to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, where her condition is unknown.

Jan. 22: Cruelty to animals - A 28-year old Hinesville man was charged with cruelty to animals after HPD officers and an animal-control officer responded to an anonymous call that a dog had been abandoned inside a house. After getting access to the house through the real-estate manager, the emaciated dog was taken for medical care and contact was made with the owner, who admitted he had left the dog inside the house three weeks earlier.
