Suspect in string of robberies arrested

Dublin police have apprehended a Savannah resident believed to be responsible for eight robberies between Athens and Orange Park, Fla., including one in Midway and one in Richmond Hill, according to the Richmond Hill Police Department.

LCSO’s Jenkins promoted to captain

Liberty County Sheriff's Office in-house instructor Keith Jenkins was promoted to captain Friday as part of a department-wide restructuring. LCSO Sheriff Steve Sikes said Jenkins will oversee the department's revamped, more intensive training program.

The victim told police her neighbor spotted a former acquaintance of the victim's on the property, and the victim told police she believed the former acquaintance also had been stealing cigarette butts from her front porch for several weeks.

June 10: Officers charged two men with marijuana possession and possession with intent after attempting to stop a vehicle on Gen. Screven Way for a center-lane violation. Before pulling over, one of the vehicle's passengers threw a suspicious item out of the window and then bailed out of the vehicle and ran. The man was found down the street hiding on a porch and was arrested without further incident. He was found carrying marijuana and the discarded item also was determined to be marijuana. More contraband was found in another passenger's possession.

Man suspected in string of robberies

The man who recently robbed the El Cheapo in Midway probably also is responsible for robbing Subway restaurants in Richmond Hill and Savannah, according to police. Authorities are searching for a 25- to 30-year-old white male described as clean-cut and "preppy," who likely is driving a white Ford Expedition.

HFD firefighters train to respond at any time

Visitors to the Hinesville Fire Department won't find firefighters sitting around idly waiting for a call. Instead, firefighters spend a majority of their time training and preparing for calls to save property and lives. Hinesville firefighters recently conducted ventilation-training exercises, one of the many types of drills the firefighters must complete.

Long firefighters receive equipment grant

The Ludowici/Long County Fire Department recently received a grant to purchase new protective gear for its firefighters. According to Assistant Chief Richard Truman, the $45,000 federal grant was used to purchase 26 sets of Globe G-Xtreme bunker gear for firefighters to wear when they battle blazes.

Ludowici cracking down on bad driving
