A 30-year-old man, who was shot Thursday, died in a Savannah hospital Saturday and the young woman accused of shooting him in the head, is expected to be charged with murder, according to Liberty County Sheriff Steve Sikes.

Gas leak briefly closes part of Veterans Parkway

Construction crews hit a gas line Friday afternoon around 5 p.m. near Veterans Parkway in Hinesville. The northbound lanes of the road were closed for about 30 minutes while the line was repaired. The strong smell of gas drifted toward Oglethorpe Highway, but it remained open.

Shooting victim found in ditch

A Gum Branch man suffering from a bullet wound to the head was found in a ditch Thursday night near the intersection of Elim Road and Highway 196, according to Liberty County Sheriff Steve Sikes.

The force of a wreck on E.B. Cooper Highway Thursday night seemed to fold a pickup in half. No one was injured, even though the crash also brought down a power pole and a couple other vehicles got entangled in the wires.

Wreck at Airport and 196 tying up traffic

Update: A wreck at the corner of Airport Road and Highway 196 West in Hinesville tied up traffic for roughly two hours Wednesday. According to GSP Trooper Lyle Thurmond the wreck happened at 3 p.m. Three vehicles were involved and authorities had to re-route traffic around the area. Traffic headed westbound on 196 toward Gum Branch was closed for about two hours.
