Inside joke at business riles customer

A simple joke between two longtime friends backfired when a sign, meant as a personal gag, was hung in a Hinesville business and left up longer than intended. The sign angered an unknowing customer.

Kroger helping build cabin at 4-H camp

ATLANTA - Now through March 13, Kroger customers can buy a $1 or $5 paper icon at any Kroger cash register to benefit the "Rock Eagle 4-H Center Cabin Campaign." The statewide effort, which includes all 176 Kroger stores in Georgia, is designed to raise $100,000 to fund construction of the "Kroger Cabin," the first corporate-sponsored cabin on the Rock Eagle 4-H Center campus in Eatonton. During the past two years, Kroger has raised more than $171,000 toward the project, but $250,000 is needed to finish the cabin.

Chemtall wants to modify discharge permit

SNF Chemtall has requested a modification of its wastewater pretreatment permit from Georgia's Environmental Protection Division, but some area residents would like an opportunity to discuss the issue before the permit is approved. A public comment period regarding the permit ends Feb. 28.

Energy Star appliance rebates start today

ATLANTA - Starting Feb. 12, the state energy efficient appliance rebate program will provide Georgia residents with rebates ranging from $25-$199 on Energy Star rated appliances. Energy Star appliances eligible for the program include clothes washers, dishwashers, air conditioners, heat pumps, furnaces, water heaters, refrigerators and freezers. The total amount available for rebates is $8.6 million.
