Port authority sees 25% container growth

SAVANNAH - Georgia Ports Authority's Executive Director Curtis J. Foltz announced recently that the GPA experienced 25.3 percent container growth in May and has recorded six consecutive months of double-digit growth.

Liberty, Long in forestry initiative

James E. Tillman, Sr., State Conservationist for the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Georgia today announced that 19 more south Georgia counties are in the high priority category for funding for the Southeast Forestry Initiative (SFI). The goal of the SFI is to develop, enhance or restore pine savannah habitat by the management and restoration of longleaf pine on private lands. The application period for this Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program initiative ends July 9, 2010.

Midway native passes bar exam

Alicia LaVon Mullice, a 2010 graduate of Atlanta's John Marshall Law School, completed the requirements for her degree in December 2009. She passed the February 2010 Georgia Bar examination and recently was sworn in to practice law in the state of Georgia by Liberty County Superior Court Chief Judge David Cavender. About 25 family members and friends attended the June 7 ceremony in the superior courtroom.

Leadership class tours Fort Stewart

The 2009-10 Leadership Liberty class recently had its last session on Fort Stewart where participants learned about the installation, ate lunch with 3rd ID soldiers and toured the museum, Warriors Walk and the motor pool. Hinesville jobless rate hit 8.2 percent in May

ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Labor reported Thursday that the preliminary unadjusted unemployment rate in metro Hinesville rose to 8.2 percent in May, up three-tenths of a percentage point from a revised 7.9 percent in April. Meanwhile, the number of unemployed workers in the metro area increased to 2,679, up 83 from 2,596 in April.
