BI students explore ports authority

Several Bradwell Institute students took a "follow the container" field trip May 17 to the Georgia Ports Authority's Garden City Terminal and then onto Port City Logistics, where they were given a tour of the warehouse and distribution center. The trip was organized by Savannah Technical College in support of Liberty County's Work Ready initiative.

Invest beyond short-term CDs

Many people depend on certificates of deposit (CDs) to provide extra income, yet CD rates have been fairly low for a while. In recent months, in fact, one-year CDs were paying about 0.5 percent, two-year CDs topped out at around 1 percent and five-year CDs paid between 2 percent and 2.3 percent. Those rates are scanty enough, but they can seem even lower in an economic environment marked by rising food and gas prices.

Coastal EMC mixes business, fun at 71st annual meeting

Hinesville’s April jobless rate dips to 8.5 percent

ATLANTA - State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that the preliminary unadjusted unemployment rate in the metro Hinesville area decreased to 8.5 percent in April, down one-tenth of a percentage point from a revised 8.6 percent in March. The jobless rate in the Hinesville area in April a year ago was 8.1 percent.
