Saturday is 'Work Ready Day' in Liberty

Liberty County workers may take the Georgia Work Ready assessment test from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Savannah Technical College's Liberty Campus. The Work Ready initiative, which officials say ensures workers have valuable skills, easy access to training and world-class job opportunities, is sponsored by the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce, the Liberty County Board of Commissioners, the city of Hinesville, Savannah Technical College, the Liberty County Board of Education, the Liberty County Development Authority, the Department of Labor and several private organizations.

Program offers real estate discounts to 'heroes'

Homes for Heroes, a company affiliated with realtors, lenders and other real estate service providers, facilitates rebates and discounts for military personnel, police officers, firefighters, teachers, first responders and others who serve communities and the nation. June jobless number not encouraging

ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Labor reported Thursday that the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined to 10.0 percent in June, down one-tenth of a percentage point from a revised 10.1 percent in May. This is the 33rd consecutive month Georgia has exceeded the national unemployment rate, which is now 9.5 percent.

Liberty, Long in forestry initiative

James E. Tillman, Sr., State Conservationist for the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Georgia today announced that 19 more south Georgia counties are in the high priority category for funding for the Southeast Forestry Initiative (SFI). The goal of the SFI is to develop, enhance or restore pine savannah habitat by the management and restoration of longleaf pine on private lands. The application period for this Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program initiative ends July 9, 2010.
