Unemployment rates up sharply

ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Labor reported that the unemployment rate in the metro Hinesville area rose to 5.5 percent in January, up six-tenths of one percent from 4.9 percent in December. The unemployment rate in the metro Savannah area rose to 4.4 percent in January, up one-half of one percent from 3.9 percent in December, while the unemployment rate in the Coastal Georgia area rose to 4.6 percent in January, up six-tenths of one percent from 4.0 percent in December.

Hinesville jobless rate up to 8.7%

ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that Hinesville's unemployment rate increased to 8.7 percent in June, up .3 percent from 8.4 percent in May. The rate was 9.8 percent in June a year ago.
