Chamber welcomes accessory store

$20 and Below Accessories, a downtown Hinesville discount jewelry retail store, celebrated its grand opening recently with the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce. Shop owner Vivian Smith, chamber members, friends and community leaders cut a ribbon at the shop, which is at 106 W. MLK Jr. Drive, across from the new Justice Center.

Chamber gets in spirit at Christmas tree farm

The Liberty County Chamber of Commerce kicked off the holiday season at Brewer's Christmas Tree-Blueberry Farm in Midway. Brewer's has a Christmas tree selection that spans more than 500 acres. Owner Paschal Brewer was named grower of the year in 2003 and 2005. The farm also had the grand champion Christmas tree in 2009 at the Georgia National Fair.

Jobless claims up to 8.4 percent here

ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Labor reported Wednesday that the preliminary unadjusted unemployment rate in the metro Hinesville area increased to 8.4 percent in November, up four-tenths of a percentage point from 8.0 percent in October. Meanwhile, the number of unemployed workers in the area increased to 2,779, up 181 from 2,598. The jobless rate in the metro Hinesville area in November 2009 was 7.5 percent.
