Downtown promotions include shopping spree

Shopping local contributes to the prosperity of the community and it just may foot the bill for your holiday gifts, too. As part of a program launched by the Hinesville Downtown Development Authority and the Downtown Business Partners, one customer will win a $500 downtown shopping spree. In addition, 12 downtown Hinesville businesses are offering in-store prizes totaling more than $1,100 in value.

Foundry air discharge permit OKed

Georgia's Environmental Protection Division has issued a permit allowing Firth Rixson Forgings LLC to discharge 80 tons of particulates, including mercury, from its plant in the Tradeport East Business Center.

Area jobless rate drops to 8.1%

ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Labor reported Wednesday that the preliminary unadjusted unemployment rate in the metro Hinesville area decreased to 8.1 percent in October, down one-tenth of a percentage point from a revised 8.2 percent in September.

Discussion on employing handicapped

The Coastal Georgia Transition Council will host "Supports in the Workplace," a panel discussion on the supports available to individuals with disabilities in the workforce, from 9 to 11 a.m. Dec. 7 at the Hoskins Center at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah. Open house kicks off shopping season

Jewelry store celebrates new name

The Liberty County Chamber of Commerce recently celebrated with its newest renamed member, Thomas Hill Jewelers, during a ribbon-cutting and grand opening ceremony. The store is at 110 E. M.L. King Jr. Drive, suite 1-A (across the street from the Hinesville Police Department). Chamber board members, ambassadors and other community members attended the celebration.
