Leadership class tours Fort Stewart

The 2009-10 Leadership Liberty class recently had its last session on Fort Stewart where participants learned about the installation, ate lunch with 3rd ID soldiers and toured the museum, Warriors Walk and the motor pool. The class was greeted by Brig. Gen. Jeffrey E. Phillips, DutyCommanding General-Rear and Senior Commander of 3rd Infantry Division.

Jones Medical opens new store

Jones Medical Equipment recently opened its new location at 481 E.G. Miles Parkway, suite B. The Liberty County Chamber of Commerce had a grand opening and ribbon ceremony June 1. The new medical equipment store is next door to Hinesville Pharmacy and across from Liberty Regional Medical Center.

Hinesville jobless rate hit 8.2 percent in May

ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Labor reported Thursday that the preliminary unadjusted unemployment rate in metro Hinesville rose to 8.2 percent in May, up three-tenths of a percentage point from a revised 7.9 percent in April. Meanwhile, the number of unemployed workers in the metro area increased to 2,679, up 83 from 2,596 in April.

State jobless rate dips in May

ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Labor reported Thursday that the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined to 10.2 percent in May, down one-tenth of a percentage point from a revised 10.3 percent in April. However, the jobless rate remains seven-tenths of a percentage point higher than the 9.5 percent at this same time last year. This is the 32nd consecutive month Georgia has exceeded the national unemployment rate, which is now 9.7 percent.
