Special Olympics brings together area athletes
One hundred athletes from the Liberty County, Long County and Fort Stewart school systems competed in the annual Special Olympics last weekend on post.

Blue Tide baseball team holds rec night for players, coaches
The Blue Tide baseball team recently held its annual Recreation Night in Long County. Around 50 players and coaches who are participating in the T-ball, softball and baseball programs came out for the night. Recreation department Director Michelle Rogers said more than 400 children will be playing this year.

5-on-5 basketball tourney set for Saturday The SNF Relay for Life Team is hosting a five-on-five basketball tournament, dunk contest and 3-point contest at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at the Riceboro Youth Center. Like you, I tend to start really missing college football about this time of year. It's almost enough to make me a fan of The Sun Belt conference. Troy State versus Western Kentucky, anyone? Oh, wait. Troy dropped the State from its moniker. It's now Troy University. I understand why. Last time I checked, not one of the 50 states in the U.S. was called Troy.
