FMWR, FPCA offering summer camps

In the April 23 Courier, different camps and programs offered this summer by the Liberty County Recreation Department were spotlighted. Today, programs highlighted are at First Presbyterian Christian Academy and the Morale Welfare and Recreation Department and Child Youth and School Services at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield.

During his two seasons at Liberty County High School, basketball player Freddie McSwain averaged 16.5 points and 12 rebounds per game. Not too shabby, considering he didn't start playing basketball until he was 14 years old.

It was déjà-vu for the First Presbyterian Christian Academy baseball team. Their home game Thursday against Memorial Day was exactly like their away game on March 27. Both times they lost to the Matadors, 6-5, falling short despite late-game comebacks.

Blue Tide finishing summer conditioning

The Long County High School football team's summer conditioning program is winding down. The Blue Tide began their program in June and have been practicing three days a week ever since, with the exception of taking off last week. They will wrap up their conditioning July 17, and their football camp will run July 21-25. School practice begins July 28.

Tigers resume team practice, raise funds

The Bradwell Institute Tigers resumed team practices this week after taking one week off as required by the Georgia High School Association. The players trained with their helmets on, allowing them to become acclimated to the heat.
