Liberty Co. rec department volunteer coaches recognized

Pictured are Liberty County Recreation Department volunteer coaches who were head coaches for three or more teams in 2013. These volunteers were presented LCRD coaches' apparel during Tuesday's recreation-board meeting at the Charles Shuman Recreation Center. As a group, these individuals contributed in excess of 2,000 hours of volunteer service to the LCRD in 2013.

Bradwell Institute boys' basketball team took down the Glynn Academy Red Terrors at home Friday night to start their Region 3-AAAAA games with a 54-40 win. Before the boys' game, the Lady Tigers suffered a loss in their region opener, falling 42-33.

Jelani Hewitt named SoCon player of the month for November

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Georgia Southern guard Jelani Hewitt was picked recently as the Southern Conference player of the month for November after leading the league in scoring for the opening month of the season. A native of Miramar, Fla., Hewitt scored more than 20 points in six of GSU's eight games in November.

McKinnon and Westbrooks invited to 2014 Senior Bowl

MOBILE, Ala. - Two Georgia Southern Eagles, running back Jerick McKinnon and cornerback Lavelle Westbrooks, have been invited to the Reese's Senior Bowl. The football game is set for 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala., and serves as a showcase of talent for NFL general managers, coaches and scouts as well as representatives from other professional football leagues.
