When to play a provisional ball

Question: Beth and Janet are playing in their golf association's tournament. On the 10th hole, Beth hits her tee shot to the left of the fairway. She believes the ball probably is in the water hazard, but she is positive the ball is not lost or out of bounds. She announces she will hit a provisional ball and does so. Janet states that a provisional ball is not allowed. Is she correct?

Lady Landers played with heart

First Presbyterian Christian Academy's girls' soccer team played to the bitter end of four overtimes but lost 2-1 in Saturday's state title game against Gatewood School. It was the girls first trip to the state title game in four seasons. The girls can proudly display their Region 4-AA championship trophy and are this year's state runners up.

The Blue Tide began their program in June and have been practicing three days a week ever since, with the exception of taking off last week. They will wrap up their conditioning July 17, and their football camp will run July 21-25. School practice begins July 28.

Swimming is more than treading water

Tom Dunlap started swimming at age 10 and still asserts - 70 years later - that the sport is good for the body and mind. His friend, Gary Burch, started swimming about two years ago and said it has improved his overall health. Both men regularly take to the pool at the Liberty County YMCA, and while they do it to stay in shape and have fun, they want others to know that the recreational activity can be deadly for those who don't know how to swim. "Most of the kids who drown probably thought they could swim," Dunlap said.
