Prep roundup: BI, LC fall

Bradwell Institute is still seeking that elusive first win as Jenkins edged out a 26-14 victory at Memorial Stadium Friday night. In Bacon County, the Long County Blue Tide managed to keep things close but the Raiders were able to enjoy their homecoming night with a 34-21 win.

BI volleyballers regroup, beat RH

The Bradwell Lady Tigers' volleyball team split victories last week, falling to Glynn Academy in two sets (25-13, 25-14) and defeating host Richmond Hill in two sets (25-23, 25-21). BI's volleyball coach DeAndre Davis said he was pleased with the girls' overall performance but added mistakes and a lack of communication on the court hurt his team.

On the sidelines

Liberty County High School and Bradwell Institute held their homecoming games earlier than usual this season. On Sept, 21, Cynthia Kornegay, Liberty's 2011 homecoming queen passed the tiara to this year's queen Janelle Stokes. During Bradwell's Sept. 28 game against Cross Creek the Tigers crowned Tiger football player Khalil Harris as their homecoming king and Alaitra McGrone was named homecoming queen.

Liberty climbs to 5-1

It was a tense first quarter as the Glenn Hills Spartans marched down the field during the first quarter and scored to take a quick 8-0 lead. But the big Cats pinned their ears back tied the game a short while later and then went on to pound the Spartans 37-14 at Donell Woods Stadium. The win gives the Liberty team a 5-1 record as they prep for their region game next week at Statesboro.

Tigers hold off Jenkins at home in Hinesville

With the baseball game tied 5-5 at the bottom of the seventh inning, Bradwell Institute baseball player Sage Sammons dug deep and earned his first career walk-off win as the Tigers beat Jenkins, 6-5, Friday night. It also was the Tigers' first Region 3-AAAAA win of the season.
