Tough night for Liberty basketball
Liberty County High School's boys' basketball team suffered its first loss of the season, and the Lady Panthers fell as well Friday night at home.
Panther LB gets lofty honor
Liberty County sophomore linebacker Raekwon McMillan was named to the 2011 U. S. Air Force Sophomore All-American Team, according to an article posted on maxpreps.com on Thursday.
LCHS puts perfection on line tonight
The undefeated Liberty County High School boys' basketball team (11-0) open Region 2A-AAAA action tonight. The Panthers play host to rival Richmond Hill. According to ga.prepcountry.com, the Panthers are 10-1 in the series since 2006. The Wildcats, the defending 2-AAAA champions, are 8-3 and recently won the Washington Square bracket of the Savannah Holiday Classic. The girls' game precedes the boys' action, tipping off at 6:30 p.m. at LCHS.
Slow start, fast finish for Tide
The Long County High School boys' basketball team overcame a slow start for a 53-46 win over Region 2-AA foe Tattnall County on Tuesday in Reidsville.

Miami’s Brown getting hot
Former Liberty County High School basketball player Rion Brown seems to be returning to form. According to Sun Sentinel reporter Steve Gorten, Brown, a 6-foot-6 sophomore guard, was in a shooting slump for the past three weeks but put those troubles behind him with added time in the gym and a standout performance against Florida Atlantic University on Dec. 17.
BI Lady Tigers return from Macon
Just before the holiday, Bradwell's Lady Tiger basketball team returned from the 2011 Great Southern Shootout in Macon, where the girls finished 1-2 in games played Dec. 17, Dec. 21 and Dec. 22, respectively. The BI and Liberty boys are in Statesboro, where they both won tournament openers Monday night. The BI boys defeated Mundy Mills High, 85-81, and the Panthers still are undefeated at 9-0 after beating Glenn Hills, 57-55.
Seven Highlanders named to All-Region team
First Presbyterian Christian Academy's boys soccer team recently had seven players named to the Georgia Independent Association All-Region Team.

First-year baseball coach Andy Yanzetich congratulated his senior players after First Presbyterian Christian Academy closed the season Wednesday with a 3-1 win over Coastal Home School at St. James Field.

Blue Tide baseball team holds rec night for players, coaches
The Blue Tide baseball team recently held its annual Recreation Night in Long County. Around 50 players and coaches who are participating in the T-ball, softball and baseball programs came out for the night. Recreation department Director Michelle Rogers said more than 400 children will be playing this year.
