The Comets, a soccer team featuring Liberty County residents Cassandra Ruff, Sidney Wilkinson Kaitlyn Anderson, Mary Kathryn Whitney and Cecilia Graham, took the championship trophy at the Savannah Shamrock Cup on May 25-26. The 14U Comets beat Effingham United '99G, 6-0, in the semifinals in St. Andrews Stadium on Wilmington Island. The Comets then faced NASA G17 Select Royal, a team representing the North Atlanta Soccer Association, in the finals. The teams ended regulation tied at 1, forcing extra time. Neither team got a goal, sending the championship game into a penalty-kick shootout. There, the Comets won, 5-4.
