Liberty stuns Bradwell at new field

A large crowd gathered to watch the cross town rivalry between Liberty and Bradwell unfold at the Tigers newly construcuted Olvey Field. Within seconds the visitor's section was roaring as DJ Bratcher returned the opening kick-off for roughly 80 yards and a touchdown.

Logan Avant made a good move when he traded in his football cleats for weightlifting shoes. The local lifter developed quickly and earned a bronze medal the last weekend of July at the 2012 Junior Olympics in Houston.

Blue Tide manhandle Eagles, 42-6

The Blue Tide's 42-6 scrimmage victory Friday in Ludowici over the Montgomery County Eagles had the feel of a regular-season game. The game originally was slated for Thursday, but was moved to Friday because of bad weather. The rescheduling allowed more people to attend, and those who did were not disappointed.

BI cheerleader an All-American

Bradwell Institute senior cheerleader Christia Thomas recently was named by the United Cheer Association to the All-American squad. She will represent Liberty County at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and a will make special trip to London for the New Year.

Last year, the Long County High School baseball team finished the season with a 14-11 overall record and a 9-9 mark in Region 2-AA Region. But even though the team showed promise, doing better than it had in several years, it still missed making the playoffs by one game.
