FPCA boys’ soccer under way

Long middle schoolers developing in seasons

The Walker Middle School football and softball teams are, so far, having a great years. Football The Wildcat football team has been practicing since the first of the month, and the sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders are showing why they were undefeated in 2010. Lady Tide drop game to Wayne

The Long County High School varsity softball team lost to Wayne County Monday, 14-1. The Ludowici girls fought hard, but it was clear the girls from Jesup were an older, more experienced team. Both teams were scoreless in the first inning. The second, however, closed with the Yellow Jackets up 5-0, off of four hits. Lady Tigers JV beat Panthers

Special to the Courier Taking a cue from the varsity squad, the junior varsity Lady Tigers beat the junior Lady Panthers 10-2 in five innings Saturday afternoon. Coached by Misty Eastlake, the JV girls were led by eighth grader Jaleesa DeJesus on the mound, earning eight strike outs, allowing three hits and walking only two batters. Kings squad takes 4th at AAU nationals

The 12U South Georgia Kings placed fourth in the AAU National Classic Tournament July 19-25 in Hampton, Va. Head coach Shane Smith said the team earned an automatic bid to the 2012 nationals in Memphis.

Hoop stars stress hard work, studies

Former Liberty County High School basketball players Rion Brown, Jordan McRae and Lamar Richardson dropped by the Shuman Center on Thursday evening and spoke to a group of young basketball players. The trio touched on the importance of working hard and maintaining good grades in order to play at the college level.

Pre-K field day held on BI’s Olvey

Former Lady Highlander basketball player Aaliyah Wilson got a big surprise when she visited First Presbyterian Christian Academy on Friday morning. The Lady 'Lander basketball standout received a scholarship last year to play basketball at Brewton-Parker College, but her busy schedule didn't give the school administrators an opportunity to honor her with a signing ceremony.
