Long middle schoolers developing in seasons

Lady Tide drop game to Wayne

The Long County High School varsity softball team lost to Wayne County Monday, 14-1. The Ludowici girls fought hard, but it was clear the girls from Jesup were an older, more experienced team. Both teams were scoreless in the first inning. The second, however, closed with the Yellow Jackets up 5-0, off of four hits. Lady Tigers JV beat Panthers

Special to the Courier Taking a cue from the varsity squad, the junior varsity Lady Tigers beat the junior Lady Panthers 10-2 in five innings Saturday afternoon. Coached by Misty Eastlake, the JV girls were led by eighth grader Jaleesa DeJesus on the mound, earning eight strike outs, allowing three hits and walking only two batters. Tigers take Panthers, 8-6

Testing the condition of a bunker

Q: Alice and Martha are playing No. 5 on their home course. Martha's ball comes to rest short of the green. There is a small, shallow bunker between her ball and the green. Martha wants to putt her ball through the bunker. She believes this is the best shot since the bunker is shallow and the hole is near the bunker. Martha knows that the superintendent recently put new sand in all of the bunkers, so she decides to test the condition of the sand before hitting. Can she do this?
