Fort Stewart USBC awards scholarships

Danielle Elizabeth Durham and Courtney Ayana Chaney each received a $500 scholarship from the United States Bowling Congress. The two girls were given the scholarships at the Fort Stewart USBC's annual board meeting at Club Stewart. The checks will help the girls cover college expenses.

Liberty Thunder takes second

The 14U Liberty County Thunder baseball team took second place at a tournament May 14-15 in Brunswick. Coaches Ricky Cross and Patrick Sammons said the team played well in its first tournament of the season. The team will be in Pooler this weekend to participate in a wood-bat tournament.

Hinesville Gators 14U team heads to state

The Hinesville Gators 14U girls' soccer team earned its second consecutive Georgia Recreation and Parks Association District II soccer championship Sunday at Stone Mountain. Sixteen teams competed for three spots at the state championship finals that will take place this weekend in Columbus.

Sixth-graders get look at colleges
