Hinesville to be 'Purple Heart City'

Mayor Allen Brown will proclaim Hinesville as a Purple Heart City at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Hinesville Room on the third floor of city hall. The proclamation also will be read during the 3 p.m. city council meeting. Veterans, particularly purple heart recipients, and the community are welcome to attend the proclamation signing and reading at the council meeting.

Update: Road closed due to man claiming he has explosives

Authorities have closed a section of Highway 57 in Long County because of a man who is claiming he has explosives strapped to him, according to Long County Sheriff Craig Nobles. Bomb disposal teams from Fort Stewart and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are at the scene.

Deadline for in person application is today

Today is the deadline to apply for Federal Emergency Management Agency individual assistance in person. FEMA Disaster Recovery Specialists are at the Disaster Recovery Center at Mt. Zion Church, 1370 Shaw Road, Hinesville, until 7 p.m.
