LCDA reviews major 2010 accomplishments

The Liberty County Development Authority held its monthly meeting Monday and board members reviewed the accomplishments and projects completed by the authority in 2010. The list of projects, awards and accolades is as follows:

Mayor recovering from surgery

Hinesville Mayor Jim Thomas underwent surgery in mid-February for an unspecified condition. City officials, per Thomas's wishes, would not disclose what type of surgery the mayor had. They would say he is currently resting comfortably at home.

Friends of Shellman Bluff prepare for St. Pat’s parade

The Friends of Shellman Bluff will celebrate its 10th year of parades and fundraising efforts Saturday, March 19. To commemorate the anniversary of 10 years supporting the volunteer fire departments and other community needs, the theme is "A Decade of Firin' It Up on the Bluff." Bill Aquiar, a founding member of Friends of Shellman Bluff and longtime volunteer, will serve as the grand marshal.

Bikers raise $6,000 for sick teen

A year ago, 15-year-old Josh Berry was just like many other Long County High School students. He had just completed a basketball season with the Blue Tide and was in the process of completing his sophomore year. But on Nov. 17, the lives of the Berry family were turned upside down when they found out their son had leukemia. Since that time, Berry has been receiving treatment for the disease, and the family is doing everything they can to support their son. But with this new obstacle for the family came additional expenses, including travel to and from the doctors ...

Career academy construction now under way

Immediately after Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle spoke Friday at a luncheon, the audience was invited to the site where the new Liberty College & Career Academy foundation will be laid. The group prayed over the land as a wind shook the banner bearing the LCCA's new logo.

Leadership Liberty visits lawmakers
