The city of Hinesville and Liberty County Homeless Coalition can find shelter for people tonight if they have no other place to stay, according to the city's homeless prevention coordinator Daisy Jones.

Liberty County schools are canceling classes on Wednesday, Jan. 29. However, school will be in session for a full day Tuesday, according to a news release from Superintendent Dr. Valya Lee. Based on information from the Weather Channel and local media outlets, precipitation is likely to begin around 3 p.m. Tuesday. As a result, the system is canceling all afternoon and evening activities -- including the after-school program and sporting events -- for Tuesday. Staff will dismiss with students. Press releases, website updates and One Call messages will be sent to all stakeholders.
According to a news release from the Liberty County School System, the district is presently on high alert regarding the forecast for a winter storm watch beginning Tuesday afternoon, January 28, 2014. District leaders areclosely watching the evolving weather advisories and warnings. With student safety asthe top priority, LCSS has to make a decision about cancelling or delaying school based onwhat's best for the whole community. LCSS is communicating with public safety officials andneighboring school districts to monitor conditions and make the best possible decision.
Long County has already made the announcement that all of its schools will be closed Wednesday due to inclement weather. Tuesday should be treated as a normal school day. Thursday's status has not yet been determined, according to Superintendent Dr. Robert Waters.

Liberty County has begun construction of a rural water system for residents in the Holmestown-Screven Fork area and those who live along Highway 84 from the Midway city limits to Highway 196.
