Mother of child who died faces charges

Hinesville Police Department detectives arrested the mother of a 3-year-old who was killed earlier this month. Jocelyn Carroll, 25, has been charged with one count of cruelty to a child. She was arrested without incident at her job in Richmond Hill shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday, Detective Doug Snider said.

Long County’s population jumps

The Census Bureau is delivering state-by-state data on a rolling basis through March. According to the bureau website's summaries of 2010 Census population totals, Long County's population increased from 10,304 in 2000 to 14,464 in 2010, adding 4,160 new residents, or a 40.3 percent increase, according to the site's data. 2010 Census numbers are in

The 2010 Census numbers show Liberty County and its cities have increased in population. Liberty County has a population of 63,453, and Hinesville has a population of 33,437, according to the 2010 census. In 2000, the county had just over 61,000 people and Hinesville had 30,392 residents, according to the census.

Local officials talk water in D.C.

County and city officials traveled to Washington, D.C., in early March to speak with the U.S. Department of Agriculture about a proposed rural water system for Liberty County's Holmestown area. In order to install the system, a proposal submitted by P.C. Simonton & Associates Inc. for a $1.1 million loan and a $3.2 million grant first would need to be approved by the USDA.
