Liberty schools budgeting for more students

The Liberty County Board of Education was informed Tuesday that school administrators are busy shaping a budget for the 2014-15 school year. School-board members were told that before a final draft budget can be presented, the district must clear three hurdles: projecting enrollment and teacher allocations, developing a budget for capital projects and estimating costs for advancing technology in the schools.

Fire destroys "man cave" in Long Co.

A fire broke out late Thursday afternoon in Long County and destroyed a mobile home on Dena Circle that Long County resident Mike Dollins used as his "man cave," according to Ludowici/Long County Fire Chief Richard Truman.

Split vote stymies recommended firings

Liberty County School System Superintendent Dr. Valya S. Lee's recommendation to terminate married teachers Brian and Tiffany Griggs for abandonment of contract failed Monday when the board of education delivered a split vote in the couple's combined fair-dismissal hearing. Had the Griggs been terminated, they most likely would have faced sanctions from the state Professional Standards Commission, to include having their teaching certificates revoked in Georgia and states of reciprocity, including Florida, Alabama and South Carolina.
