James Fuller was elected mayor of Ludowici on Tuesday, according to Election Supervisor Larry Wells. Fuller received 48.03 percent (207) of the vote; Tara Manning received 22.74 percent (98); Janis Goode received 22.04 percent (95); and William Miller received 6.96 percent (30). The results are unofficial, Wells said, but all absentee ballots have been counted and there only are nine provisional ballots to be considered, so those nine votes will not affect the outcome of the mayoral race.
The Liberty County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will conduct a runoff election Dec. 6 for Walthourville City Council Post 3, according to city clerk Juanita Johnson. She said results from Tuesday's election did not give a clear majority - 50 percent or more - to one candidate among the four running for that office. The runoff is between Sarah "Betty" Hayes and Lillie R. "Readie" Kelly, she said.

By a 13-vote margin, Kathy Todd won the mayoral race in Tuesday's Gum Branch municipal election.
The Hinesville City Council held its monthly meeting on Thursday, voting on or agreeing to further discussion on zoning and community development issues, surplus property and alcoholic beverage special event permits and license renewals. And, during the public commenting period, council members heard from a man who said he is fed up with a particular dog breed.

Road work on Georgia highway 144 that began Sunday night will continue until July 31. Motorists are urged to drive with caution. The Georgia Department of Transportation is paving a little more than 11 miles of highway 144 east between Evans Army Airfield and the Richmond Hill boundary gate in four-mile sections that will close one lane. Flagging stations will be used. Night work will occur. No lanes will be closed from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
