Dealership awards cars to families in need

Demere NeSmith, dealer principal of NeSmith Chevrolet Buick GMC in Claxton, announced this week that the dealership donated three vehicles to local people in need as part of the "Driven To Give" campaign. The local community nominated people in need and the recipients were chosen by a committee. Recipients from Tattnall and Evans counties received their vehicles Dec. 22 during a presentation at NeSmith Chevrolet in Claxton.

Steel workers give Thanksgiving baskets

Members of the United SteelWorkers Union Local 1086 at Interstate Paper LLC in Riceboro are getting into the holiday spirit. They donated five Thanksgiving baskets to needy families in Liberty County. Local Union President Chris Stacy said the group wanted to give back to area communities by helping families during the holidays. "It was not a hand out but a token of appreciation," he said. "We look forward to more charitable acts from Local 1086."

Church convention honors local man

Lamar Tillman of Hinesville received the State Layman of the Year Award for 2010 at a recent convention of the General Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta.
