RH rocker undergoes liver transplant
Rock 'n' roll Hall of Famer Gregg Allman underwent a successful liver transplant surgery Wednesday morning at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville.
Inspections director named to two boards
In March, Hinesville Director of Inspections Steve Welborn was elected to serve as director for Georgia to the International Code Council for Region 8. A month later, Welborn was selected to serve as the Coastal Georgia Inspectors Association's representative to the Building Officials Association of Georgia.

Justin Adams of Lyons graduated from the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, R.I., on June 4. Of 272 midshipmen candidates, he was one of 10 named to the superintendent's list, which requires students to maintain a minimum grade point average of a 3.75.

It took one spring break trip to Washington, D.C., for local graduate Joshua Rodgers to realize he wanted to work in government. When his parents took him to meet U.S. Rep Jack Kingston on Capitol Hill, where he took a snapshot with the area Congressman, Rodgers told him, "I'm going to work here someday."

Soldier proves his mettle
Fort Stewart soldier Cpl. Ryan Shurtleff brought home one silver and a bronze medal from the inaugural Warrior Games held May 10-14 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Shurtleff was wounded by an IED in Iraq and is assigned to the Warrior Transition Battalion here.
WW II Navy veteran headed for D.C. memorials
Hinesville resident Harold Cross, 91, said he joined the U.S. Navy in 1943. Cross said he enlisted in the Navy instead of the Army because he did not want to "fight the war from a foxhole." The former sailor said his younger brother, Merville, served in the Army.
Locals complete military training
Army Pvt. Tavares M. Foster has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla.
