Veterans urged to help with wounded warriors

Members and leaders of local veterans' organizations attended Tuesday's meeting of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 789 at the Golden Hibachi Buffet on Oglethorpe Highway in Hinesville. The veterans came to hear guest speaker Lt. Col. Rose Deck, commander of the Warrior Transition Battalion at Fort Stewart.

Stewart student wins bronze at national contest

SAVANNAH - Savannah Technical College student Shondai Dunbar-Williams, of Fort Stewart, won the bronze award at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference for nurse assisting. The win came after Dunbar-Williams won a gold medal at a state competition. At the national level, she competed with six other students in front of a panel of judges.

Section 8 complexes upgrades sought

The Dewar Group based in Valdosta announced this week that it plans to rehabilitate Raintree, Northgate and Baytree apartments in Hinesville. The group's project team - made up of developers, builders, architects and property managers - intends to submit an application in the next month for a noncompetitive grant to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs to help fund the rehab. Company officials said they also will work with the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development office in Atlanta.
