SOCIAL CIRCLE - Georgia remains a popular destination for alligator hunters given the available healthy population of more than 200,000 gators. For the past six years, thousands of applicants have competed for a chance to participate in a quota hunt, and the number of applicants continues to grow each year. The deadline for this year's applications is July 31. For those selected, the season runs Sept. 6-Oct. 5.

BRUNSWICK -- The Jekyll Island Authority and Georgia DNR have temporarily closed the Jekyll Island public boat ramp beginning Monday. Barring unforeseen delays, the boat ramp will reopen late September.
Female white-tailed deer, or does, give birth to fawns in late spring and early summer. Each doe may have one fawn, twins or, rarely, triplets. At birth, a fawn's body measures only 1-1/2 feet long and weighs 4-7 pounds. The fawn's eyes are open, but weak legs don't allow for much standing or walking.
