Firearms deer hunting season is just around the corner, and according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division, 94 percent of deer hunters in Georgia pursue the species using modern firearms. The season opens Oct. 20 and continues through Jan. 1, 2008 in the Northern Zone. In the Southern Zone, the season is through Jan. 15, 2008.

BRUNSWICK - The Georgia Department of Natural Resources sought to enhance offshore fishing opportunities with the recent deployment of materials at Artificial Reef KC, 9 nautical miles east of Wassaw Island.
With nearly 6,000 acres, including two lakes, Hard Labor Creek State Park is second in size only by F.D. Roosevelt State Park near Columbus, which boasts more thank 9,000 acres. But being second doesn't prevent this park from offering big fun to the thousands who visit each year.

The Hinesville Hurricanes, a semi-professional football team, will have its annual pre-season team and coaches meeting at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Live Oak Church of God, 296 Live Oak Church Road in Hinesville.
