Local lands record barracuda

Liberty County resident angler Kenny Fusell caught a world record Pacific barracuda along the coast of the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica on June 4. The International Game Fishing Association recently opened a new category for barracuda declaring them a game fish in the Pacific. Fusell shows off his prize catch along with captain and friend Bobby McGuinness, IGFA's captain of the year 2006. The Fish weighed 5.2 pounds and was later consumed at happy hour. Fussell would like to thank "Pato" for guarding the fish with his life.

ATLANTA - Georgians of all ages will lace up their hiking boots and pull out their paddles as they celebrate National Trails Day on June 6. Public events are scheduled in many of the state's most scenic parks and historic sites, such as Skidaway Island, Etowah Indian Mounds and Sweetwater Creek. Sponsored by the American Hiking Society, National Trails Day is held the first Saturday of each June and highlights 200,000 miles of trails that crisscross our nation.

Fishing, fundraising keeping coast busy

BRUNSWICK - An animated dolphin is the new face for a campaign to end the illegal feeding of wild dolphins. The video public service announcement, produced by a coalition of government agencies and private organizations, highlights the dangers of animals becoming hooked on human handouts. The health and welfare of wild dolphins is severely compromised when humans feed them, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Many a fort and treehouse were built, favorite swimming holes were enjoyed, and stringers of fish meant campfires and fish fries. Kids got bumped, scraped, bruised, stung, bit and sunburned.
