LCRD softball camp a success

Lady Tiger softball coaches Sharyl and Misty Eastlake spent time on the diamond with participants from the Liberty County Recreation Department summer softball camp. According to LCRD director Jimmy Martin, the girls had a blast and the coaches did a great job.

Hurricanes blast Tri-County, 41-14

After stomping the Broncos 22-9 in the pre-season and dropping the Charelston Hawks 74-0 at home June 6, the Hinesville Hurricanes hit the road last Saturday for an away game and returned with a 41-14 win over the Tri-County Panthers.

Vandals, storms damage LCHS

Lady Tigers stay in shape

Basketball season is five months away but the Lady Tigers are prepping now by participating in a summer league tournament in Glynn County. The games, which started June 9, will have the Lady Tiger squad tipping-off against teams like, Long County, McIntosh Academy, Wayne County and Brantley County.

Hammerheads 3rd at Swampland Invitational

The Liberty County Recreation Department Hammerheads swim team earned its first team trophy with a third-place finish at the Swampland Invitational meet June13. Five Hammerheads competed against swimmers from seven other swim teams from various counties.

LCRD athletes attend summer soccer camp

Coach Tom Sukaratana aided the Liberty County Recreation Department by conducting a summer soccer camp. The coach was assisted by several of his Hinesville Gator soccer players. LCRD Director Jimmy Martin said Sukaratana and his players did an excellent job.

Kings take River Street titles

Fresh off two title victories at the inaugural Kings of the Coast Classic Invitational Tournament the first weekend of June, the South Georgia Kings pulled off a few more wins. They took the championship trophies in the 12U, 13U and 14U divisions at the River Street Summer Classic last weekend in Jacksonville. As a bonus, 13U Kings player Malcolm Dingle was named tournament MVP, and the 17U squad's Rion Brown, a Liberty County High School standout, scored 41 points in one game.

Lady Hornets lose to Augusta Blaze

The temperature rose inside the Liberty County Armed Services Family YMCA gym as the Augusta Blaze basketball team melted Hinesville's C-Port Lady Hornets, 81-32, in a home game last week.

Fort Stewart's Youth Challenge Academy cadets traveled to Frostburg, Md., recently for the Youth Challenge Academy Invitational and walked away with their seventh straight title after eking out a two-point win over the Maryland YCA team, for a 48-46 victory.
