Rebels headed to Nike Invitational

16U Coastal Crew Rebels head coach Ernie Walthour, right, assistant coach David Linderman, left, and the 2009 squad are headed to the Boo Williams Nike Invitational this weekend. They play today at 6 p.m. against the St. Louis Eagles. On Saturday, they start at 8 a.m. against the Southern Kings Gold team and, at 2 p.m., they play the Metro Hawks.

Tigers beat Wildcats, 1-0

Tiger coach Rhett Hellgren has said repeatedly fewer errors and walks would lead to wins. On Tuesday the Tigers edged out a 1-0 win after committing only one error against the Wildcats of Camden County, giving Bradwell another region win.

Greg Norman to team with Keith Fergus at Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf

SAVANNAH--Tournament officials today announced that Greg Norman and Keith Fergus have declared they will team together in the Legends Division for the 32nd annual Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf on April 20-26.

Inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2001, Norman owns 91 worldwide victories including 20 PGA TOUR events. Australia's 'Great White Shark' is a two-time British Open champion who spent 331 weeks as the No. 1-ranked golfer in the world during the 1990s. The Liberty County soccer squads hosted Baldwin County on Saturday afternoon when the Lady Panthers took a 3-2 region win, improving to 4-4 in region 3-AAA. They are 6-7-1 overall.

Despite a 5-12 overall record, the Long County High School baseball team is in fourth place in the 2-AA Region. The Blue Tide is tied with Brantley County at 4-5.

14U Rebels White team wins shootout

St. James Sports Center director and Coastal Crew Shootout co-organizer Ernie Walthour said hundreds came out to watch last weekend's shootout tournament where eight teams battled it out. In the end, the St. James Coastal Crew Rebels 14U White team went undefeated, 4-0, to win the championship, edging out a team from Savannah.

Tigers get first at track meet

The Bradwell Tigers boys track team accumulated 97 points at home last Tuesday to take first place against three visiting schools. Wayne County boys placed second with 80.5 points. McIntosh placed third with 60.5, and Long County finished with 8 points.

Fort Stewart Lady Ballers begin season in Atlanta

The Fort Stewart Lady Ballers kicked off their third AAU basketball season with a trip to Atlanta March 27-29 to play in the Georgia Pistols' 16th Annual Invitational Tournament. Coach Laquenten Jones said he was pleased with the team's performance, even though they won only one game.
