HAPfan foundation to help golfers in Long, Liberty

Mabel Creel loved to play golf, and play golf she did. If anyone has ever played a round of golf in this area, especially at the Cherokee Rose Country Club, they know of Creel. The right-hander played golf for more years than she could remember and even during the last days of her life, she encouraged her friends and family by telling them, "You have to play the ball where it lies."

2 from Team Hinesville going international

Team Hinesville weightlifters, Kayla Rand and Mack Brunson, are the first members of the local weightlifting squad to earn bids to international meets. Rand is headed to Chile for the 2009 Pan-Am 17U Championships in September and Brunson will go to Canada in November for the Quebec Junior Championship.

Dickerson camp preps future pros

Ladder drills, up/downs, tackling pads and a lot of laughter were at the forefront of Thursday morning's session on the first day of the 2009 Cedric Dickerson Football Camp at Long Bell Stadium in Hinesville. With nearly 40 kids in attendance, professional football player Cedric Dickerson, his cousin and Cincinnati Bengals draft pick Michael Johnson and cousin and semi-professional player Chris Jones, led the campers through drill stations, working on the fundamentals of football.

Reds take LCRD senior league title

The Reds and the Heartbreakers battled it out in a double-header June 11 and, despite losing the first game 5-2, the Reds emerged victorious in game two. They won 10-2 and took home the first-place trophy in the LCRD senior girls' softball league. The Heartbreakers took second place.
