Savannah State asks to drop to Division II

SAVANNAH - Savannah State University President Cheryl D. Dozier Monday announced the intent to classify all athletics programs from NCAA Division I to NCAA Division II, pending approval by the NCAA.

Liberty County wins region track meet

Liberty County High School boys and girls track team are the 2017 Region 2AAA track and field champions. Hosted at their rival school Bradwell Institute, the Panthers had close to a home field advantage against region opponents Pierce County, Appling County, Tattnall County, Brantley County, and Long County.

Liberty honors seniors, fall to rival Bradwell

The Liberty County Panthers' soccer teams closed out their regular seasons on Thursday, April 13 with a loss and a tie to crosstown, non-region rival Bradwell. Not only did they close out their regular season, but they also honored 12 seniors in their annual Senior Night game.

FPCA Track qualifies for State

The FPCA track team traveled to Robert Toombs Christian Academy on Wednesday for the GISA region meet. The Highlanders qualified for State in several track and field events. Despite not having enough members to participate in all events, the Highlander boys team accumulated enough points to take second place in the Region.

BI JV girls go 6-1-1

The Bradwell Lady Tiger Soccer program concluded its 2017 campaign with a record of 6-1-1, lead by head JV coaches Joanne Van Belkum and Hannah Akin. The only blemish was a 5-0 loss to Glynn Academy. The tie was a hard fought contest at Statesboro. The most impressive win was a 2-1 contest at Richmond Hill. The Tigers played with a combination of grit, passion, and competence.

Long County Falls to Brantley County 11-3

On Tuesday, the Long County High School baseball team hosted Brantley County in a 2-AAA Region contest. Despite a game effort the Blue Tide were defeated by the Herons 11-3. With the loss, Long County fell to 4-18 overall and 1-7 in the region, while Brantley County improved their record to 11-6 and 5-3. On Friday, the Blue Tide was back at home again, this time taking on Appling County. The Pirates went into that contest sitting atop the region standings with an impressive 7-1 region record and a 16-7 overall mark.

FPCA's Mitchell signs to East Georgia State College

Highlander basketball standout, George Mitchell, signed a letter of intent on Thursday to play for East Georgia State College in Swainsboro, GA. Mitchell is following the path of FPCA alumni and pro basketball players, DJ Felder and Jordan Johnson who started their college career at East Georgia.

Lovelady moves up

Former First Presbyterian Christian Academy pitcher Richard Lovelady received a promotion in Minor League Baseball. Currently in the Kansas City Royals farm system, Lovelady was called from the Royals Rookie League affiliate, the Idaho Falls Chukars, to their Class A Advanced affiliate, the Wilmington Blue Rocks.
